Another one bites the dust...
On Wed it was announced at my work that they have decided to stop our company match on our 401K.
The match was 6% dollar per dollar, which is a pretty good compared to alot of other companies. I am 100% vested and have been for 4 plus years. I work in the real estate field and needless to say the market is tanking right now. The company tried to sell this to us as it's a way to prevent more layoffs. Which I do believe is true to some degree. For me personally I was extremely angry when I first heard about it. In many way I have put my blood, sweat and tears into my job and it just felt like yet another slap in the face. But I suppose it's something I have no control over so I can't get too terribly upset about it. It could be worse right.. I could have been laid off. I might be in real estate but I work in the IT department and have highly desired skills. So I guess it's time to update that resume one more time.
I'm trying to be an optimist about it. Since the company is not going to match anymore I am going to pull my money out and look into some other investment strategies which is something that has been on my back burner for quite some time now. I want to put the money into a ROTH IRA which in simplest terms is kinda like a 401K but it's done after taxes. So the downfall is now my taxable income will be higher when I file for income taxes. But the good thing is by the time I retire I will probably be in a different tax bracket so it will probably work out better.

Yes, it could have been worse. But no harm updating your resume and seek better prospects.

I hope, after today, that we don't lose most of our 401k money!
I am in the mortgage industry...time for me to update my resume as well.
