Wii would like to play

So Christmas in my family has become a bit out of control. Ok extremely out of control. I have eight nieces and nephews on my side of the family and we buy for them all. I also have five on my husbands side and we buy gifts for four of those little ones. In my previous post you saw the insanity that is our schedule on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

I'm dying to get my sisters to agree to do a Pollyanna for the kids but I am the odd man out on that one. I just finally stopped buying for my sisters and spouses last year. Yup we wear still doing that and I said, "come on". We are all adults I really don't need you to get me anything for Christmas. I personally just don't enjoy the thought of trying to figure out what to buy my sisters, let alone their husbands and all the kids. My eldest sister is really into it. She just seems to enjoy the gift buying process. I am the opposite. Even though I said I wasn't doing it still three of my sisters got us gifts. Well I didn't because for me I just need to put my foot down.

That being said I will go into my rant. My two sisters don't just buy the nieces and nephews a gift but rather they get a pile of 3-5 presents. I usually get each kid only one package and I try to stay in the 30 buck or less range. Else I will go broke. Every year I feel like crap compared to what my sisters do for each others kids. I feel like the uncool aunt! My one sister called me this year to tell me she got the other sisters kids a WII. Yes, A WII, a 300 dollar video game system to be shared as a joint gift amongst the kids. A FREAKING WII. 100 bucks a kid for nieces and nephews? My god am I the only one who thinks this is a bit excessive? Well needless to say  I guess the one sister got mad and I don't know exactly what transpired but on Christmas day the kids told me Santa got them a WII so I guess that my one sister must have sold it to the other sister or something.

This stuff makes me crazy every year and I don't want my son to get spoiled by his Aunties. I'm his mom let me spoil him if he is gonna get spoiled. I through out the Pollyanna idea again but I'm sure I will get shot down again. I suppose I will probably  be the first one to take a total bow out of the family Christmas Craziness. It's not that I don't love my Siblings and their kids but I just want to be able to truly enjoy the spirit and meaning of the holiday with my own family.

Anyway here is a nice shot of me and the little guy!

I blog hopped from tot's mom, and just had to comment. I, too, am the sister who spends the least. I would love to spend more, but am financially unable. My sisters all spend tons, with 5 or 6 gifts per kid. Crazy, I tell ya! Some years my kids got better stuff from them than they did santa! I finally said no more. This year was better, we didn't do adults, and the kids each got one gift from each sister. Granted, they were pricey (not Wii crazy) but santa still did better. If that makes me selfish, oh well. So be strong! Stand up for what you want. I know how hard it is to go against the majority, but it's worth it. So much less stress.

FYI, I have shifted from blogger to my new site last week or so. Hope you can drop by and take a look if you are free.
Regarding presents. I find that the older they get, the more expensive the presents become. One of my husband's nieces is 12 now and there is always a pressure to get something that is of certain 'standard'... such as a WII.

Sorry to hear your sissy's are driving you nuts. I can't believe it. A wii. They must be raking in some major mula. That is definitely over my spending limit for nieces and nephews. Is this what's making you b-itchy? I would too I think if my family would be a little more accommodating. Pollyanna sounds like a great idea!

I don't understand why a sister would do that to another one. Leave expensive gifts to the parents and let them choose if they want to get them for the child.
